Yamaha Corporation signals international approach with first non-Japanese board appointment

Yamaha Corporation has appointed its first ever non-Japanese executive officer in the form of Thomas Schoepe, marking a more international focus for the business.

Schoepe is currently president of Yamaha Music Europe Gmbh, and took over the role in April 2015.  He was previously vice president for Yamaha Music Europe at its European Head Quarters in Hamburg and has been with the company for 37 years.

His appointment as executive officer is described by the firm as a ‘clear message from Yamaha Corporation and its Global President, Takuya Nakata, that Yamaha will be an internationally managed and run business that ensures Yamaha’s growth across the global music market’.

Schoepe commented on his appointment: “I’m very proud to be the first Executive Officer of Yamaha Corporation appointed from outside Japan. My time at Yamaha Music Europe has been and continues to be a truly great experience, which I look forward to sharing with my colleagues in Japan and across the world, and I am eager to contribute to the entire Yamaha Group.
