Trinity College London is giving people the chance to see songs from its new Rock & Pop syllabus performed live at Edinburgh Festival Fringe next month.
A series of free concerts at Blackwell's Bookshop – featuring five aspiring local musicians – will give visitors a taste of what the new exams have to offer and the musicians themselves will benefit from the experience of performing in front of an audience.
The sessions will take place at 2:30pm from August 9th to 11th, lasting an hour each.
The Trinity Rock & Pop exams are available from Initial to Grade 8 for guitar, bass, drums, keyboard and vocals. Students perform a set of three songs in their exam and complete one Session Skills assessment – either improvising or playback.
Songs have been specially selected to demonstrate specific musical skills and each exam is supported by a song book, including a CD with demo and backing tracks, performance notes and guidance on technical skills and session skills. The Rock & Pop syllabus includes a wide range of music from classics such as David Bowie’s Heroes, to recent releases including Jessie J’s Price Tag.
