NAMM 2012: Ashdown reveals Classic Tube Magnifier

Ashdown has launched a new all-tube bass amp at this year's show – the Classic Tube Magnifier.

The 300-Watt unit features a simple preamp with tube drive and recovered FX loop, as well as a dual gain stage with gain control, bass, middle and treble rotary controls. It is also equipped with "easy-to-flick" switches and users can shape their sound via the Mellow tone switch, Bass Shift tone switch for deep/clean bass, Mid Shift, which moves the frequency of the mid control for further shaping and the Bright Switch for enhanced definition at lower volume settings. All tone controls are passive and interactive.

The CTM-300 also offers a user settable bias for each individual power tube, with a calibrated dual function VU meter on the front panel in bias mode. The VU meter is also used to monitor individual tube performance in audio mode. Each output tube is individually fused.

The amp is fitted with a cooling fan to change the air within the cabinet and supplement the large air vents and overrated transformers, as well as a heavy duty chassis with 18mm plywood case, which gives it a weight of around 32kg.

Ashdown is also now offering a five-year limited warranty on all Ashdown products. The firm is situated at Booth 4342.
