MIRC 2012: Rocksmith to bring real instruments to video gaming

The revolutionary Rocksmith game for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC will be showcased at next month's MI Retail Conference & Expo.

The title will work with any standard guitar with a quarter inch jack and will be launched by publisher Ubisoft in October. It will feature a huge library of music from classic rock bands to current artists, including The Animals, The Black Keys, David Bowie, Interpol, Nirvana and The Rolling Stones.

"Ubisoft believes the next evolution in music gaming is to incorporate real instruments into the gaming entertainment experience," said brand manager Rachael Grant. "Rocksmith offers players an innovative gaming experience that provides entertainment value and teaches them the skills needed to play a real guitar.

"The game will also introduce players to music terminology, guitar theory, and the skills to create new music. Rocksmith really does offer the most authentic guitar experience in music gaming."

Now in its third year, the MI Retail Conference & Expo, in association with Musikmesse, is a trade event backed by MI Pro and organised by Intent Media, and is aimed solely at maximising retail sales.

The event takes place on Thursday June 28th at The Brewery, Chiswell Street, London.

The day is free for retailers to attend and will include a conference session in the morning, once again curated by the MIA's CEO Paul McManus.

Legendary prog rocker and raconteur Rick Wakeman will provide the keynote discussion.

After a free lunch, the expo will open, featuring the market's biggest manufacturers and distributors.

In addition, there will be a series of 'Break-Out Sessions' during the afternoon, giving distributors and manufacturers the opportunity to present technical or service sessions with smaller groups of dealers.

An after-show drinks reception, sponsored by Roland, will provide networking opportunities to round off the day's events. And all dealers will go home with the now-legendary VIP Gift Bag.

The UK's top 250 retailers are set to attend the event, and dealers can register by emailing mirc@intentmedia.co.uk.

Musikmesse is the headline sponsor of the MI Retail Conference & Expo, with Platinum Partners including Barnes & Mullins, JHS, Casio, Rocksmith and Yamaha. Gold Partners include Audio-Technica, EMC/Tanglewood, Intermusic, Lamba, Marshall, Mel Bay, Monacor, Pioneer, Rotosound, Korg, Elixir and TC Group International.

A limited number of additional Event Packages are available. Contact Darrell.Carter@intentmedia.co.uk or Jodie.Holdway@intentmedia.co.uk, or call 01992 535647 to find out more.
