Meinl has updated its popular Byzance Vintage series with a selection of new Sand Cymbals models developed in close cooperation with Benny Greb.
The new Benny Greb Signature Byzance Vintage Sand Cymbals are hand hammered from B20 bronze alloy and feature a sandblasted surface with a vintage sound and look. They are also designed to complement Greb's Sand Rides and Hi-Hats perfectly.
“After the huge success of Benny’s Sand Rides and Hats, we got together with him and started to develop these new models,” explained Meinl’s product manager, Stefan Mueller. “We had a clear vision of what we wanted to hear in these new cymbals, and I am proud to say that we were able to come up with these new sounds for him which reflect his unique style perfectly.”
The 18” Sand Thin and Medium Crashes are pitch matched, dark sounding cymbals with a short sustain, a relatively trashy crash sound and a modern 'white-noise' character. The 22” Sand Crash Ride features unique hammering patterns, a sandblasted surface and its light weight creates a roaring sound with lots of low end.
Another new addition is the matched Byzance Vintage Sand Cymbal Set, which includes a 14” Sand Hat, 18” Sand Thin Crash and a 20” Sand Ride. The company describes the set as the "perfect introduction to the world of Byzance Vintage sounds."
