We tracked down Ryan Swift, advertising and marketing manager of SVM Percussion, to ask him a few questions about his musical tastes.
What was the first single you bought?
T’Pau – China in Your Hand
What is the greatest ever album, in your opinion?
Bowie’s Hunky Dory and Arctic Monkeys’ Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not are great contenders, but I’d have to plump for The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths.
Who is your favourite musician?
John Frusciante. He writes for the song. I love that he knows when to keep it simple and melodic when he totally has the ability to descend into guitar ‘fretwankery.’
What are you currently listening to?
Spotify has changed the way I listen to music – it’s mostly individual tracks rather than albums that I pick, although today’s exception is Wolfsheim’s Casting Shadows album.
Where and when did your favorite gig take place?
The March Violets reformed a few years back and played at Leeds University. I was too young first time round to see them, so hearing those songs live for the first time was amazing.
What would be your ultimate live music line-up?
The Smiths, Erasure, 2:54, Wolfsheim, David Bowie, The Like, Editors, The Sunshine Underground, Savages, Kate Bush, The Rutles and The City Of Prague Philharmonic. I’d auction me Granny!
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I run a monthly Indie club night in Nottingham called ‘Dark Edge’. Writing music is also a passion.
Are you currently in a band?
Yes, I front a Noir Wave band called In Isolation. The video for our current single Film Noir Scandal has just been nominated for the Sunset Island Music Awards in San Diego.
