Retailer guitarguitar has announced the appointments of John Buchanan and Rowan Spicer as digital director and purchasing director respectively.
Buchanan will take responsibility for all aspects of the company’s high-tech music divisions, including the guitarguitar digital retail stores in Glasgow, Epsom and Birmingham, as well as their online channels.
His appointment is the next step in his 22-year career in MI, starting in Sound Control Glasgow in 1995. Buchanan became a manager for Sound Control in 1998 and then regional manager in 2006. He joined guitarguitar in 2009 as store manager of its Edinburgh location, before assuming leadership of the Glasgow Digital store in 2011.
Prior to MI, Buchanan served in HM Royal Navy from 1983-1989 and the Parachute IV Regiment Reserves from 2000-2005.

“I am very pleased to receive this appointment and look forward to strengthening and developing this side of our business,” said Buchanan. “We have a fantastic team of people in our digital divisions, and together we’re dedicated to expanding upon our achievements to date.”
Rowan Spicer’s promotion is the latest in a successful career in MI retail, following six years as purchasing manager for guitarguitar, an appointment preceded by a term as store manager for the company’s high-tech and pro-audio division in Glasgow.
Originally from Whangarei, New Zealand, Spicer left a career in university lecturing to emigrate to the UK in 2005. He joined Sound Control in 2006, later taking the position of store manager for Reverb Glasgow in 2008, and joined guitarguitar in 2010.
“I’m delighted to join the vastly experienced group of directors here at guitarguitar,” said Spicer. “I’m humbled by the decision, and committed to help shape our path forward and continue moving this company from strength to strength.”
