D'Addario UK to launch in 2010

D’Addario & Company, the world’s largest manufacturer and distributor of musical instrument accessories, has announced the incorporation of D’Addario UK.  The new operation has been established to assume the marketing and distribution leadership for all D’Addario accessory brands in the UK providing a single point of contact for artists, educators, consumers and dealers. In addition to formulating a team of sales and marketing professionals, D’Addario UK will also be opening a new distribution facility in Gateshead.

“Since the mid-1970’s, we have been fortunate to work with reputable distributors in developing a strong market presence for our various accessory lines,” states John D’Addario III, the company’s executive vice president.  “While we are looking forward to continuing these relationships, in an increasingly competitive market, we need to centralize and refocus our marketing strategies, and be more of a resource to our customer base in the UK.”

The new entity will be run by former Summerfield sales and marketing director, Simon Turnbull. Over the last 15 years, Turnbull has developed extensive experience in the distribution of accessories and played a primary role in the marketing of D’Addario accessory brands in the UK market.

“I’ve known and worked with the people at D’Addario for many years and I know the products intimately”, said D’Addario UK's new  managing director Turnbull. “The offer to work more closely with them and the family of D’Addario brands is a source of great pride for me and an opportunity too good to miss.  We share a similar business style and culture and I am looking forward to applying these values to the UK division.”

The new company will supplement the existing UK distribution network of D’Addario brands and dealers can continue to contact Barnes & Mullins for Rico reeds and mouthpieces, Strings & Things for D’Addario fretted instrument strings or Summerfield for D’Addario fretted and bowed strings, Planet Waves accessories, Evans Drumheads, HQ and PureSound percussion products.

The planned opening date is January 2nd 2010 and further information can be found on the D’Addario UK website.

D’Addario designs, manufactures, and markets complete lines of strings for fretted and bowed musical instruments, drumheads, drum practice pads, and guitar and woodwind accessories under the proprietary brand names D’Addario, Evans Drumheads, Planet Waves, Rico, HQ Percussion and PureSound Percussion.
