MI Pro checks out the latest musical instrument projects looking for backers, or recently funded, on popular crowdsourcing sites Kickstarter and Indiegogo.

Feral Glitch Pedal

Most effects pedals distort, delay, pitch shift, or modulate a guitar's tone in an entirely predictable manner. The Feral Glitch's randomised stutter effect breaks this trend of predictability by introducing an element of chance.

It takes a stutter effect – already rare in the pedal world – and randomly varies its length each time it is activated. This pedal offers not only this rare, musically random effect, but also a more conventional mode, which can sync stutter effects to a particular tempo – or even function as a quirky looper.

The pedal has already reached its pledge goal, but there’s still plenty of time to get involved over at its Kickstarter page if you want to be one of the first to receive a Feral Glitch.

Breeze Tri-Stand

The Breeze Tri-Stand is a guitar stand that folds into a small portable carrying case (probably the smallest in the world), yet assembles itself in seconds into a full size, stable guitar stand.

In its portable compact form it is about the size of a small camera case. This provides a new freedom for the traveling or gigging guitarist who can now stow their stand in a guitar case or backpack instead of lugging it around in their hand. This stand at first can be used for electric guitars and electric basses with violins, mandolins, banjos, clarinets and flutes and other musical instruments to follow.

The project is looking for CA$ 12,000 and there’s still a couple of weeks left to pledge over at the Breeze Tri-Stand Kickstarter page.

KLOS acoustic-electric guitar

KLOS has a very successful Kickstarter campaign last year for its light-weight carbon fibre travel guitar. The firm is now back on the crowdfunding site to raise funds for an acoustic-electro model.

With a pickup installed, the KLOS guitar is now plugged into a whole new world of opportunities. Live performance, professional recording, various effects such as looping and much more is now possible.

Unplugged, the KLOS guitar is still as versatile as the original model, ideal for traveling in not just your everyday settings like a neighbour’s living room, but in more hazardous environments such as when camping or in a room full of young kids.

Once again, KLOS has smashed its pledge goal out of the park, but you’ve still got 17 days left to be a part of the project over on Kickstarter.

JumpDrum

JumpDrum combines drumming with a fitness workout. It's a hybrid drum set in which the bass drum is played by walking, running, or bouncing on top of it while the "drums" are actually tuned cajons situated on a vertical frame.

The inventors say it’s a great aerobic workout as well as a workout for the legs, buttocks, triceps, biceps, traps, lats, pecs, and core.

The JumpDrum has a rich bass/baritone sound that mixes nicely with dun-dun drums. It is built of solid Birch with dovetailed corners for added strength. The frame is made from aircraft grade aluminium, meaning it’s lightweight, strong and durable.

There’s still plenty of time for JumpDrum to reach its $37,500 pledge goal on Kickstarter, so head over there now and get involved.

String Stash

The String Stash allows you to store loads of strings, organised by size, in a small compact roll.

Keep your strings easily accessible and away from moisture, and save money by purchasing strings in bulk without worrying about losing them. Simply load the strings ball end first from the bottom of the ripstop nylon sleeve. Fold it long ways and then roll it up, or leave it open to velcro to a guitar stand, mic stand or travel case. It fits in the “under neck” compartment on most guitar cases and is made by hand.

“After a particularly frustrating number of performances breaking strings and endlessly rummaging through my gig bag in search of the correct replacement, I thought, “There has to be a better way to do this.” Much to my dismay, there wasn’t. Luckily, my experience as a soft good product designer kicked in and I quickly had a working prototype,” says String Stash maker Dan McKewen on the Kickstarter page.

There’s still 21 days to go to help String Stash reach it’s pledge goal of $9,600. Head over to the project’s Kickstarter page to become a backer.
