Bass Gear's Phil Nixon launches MusicBiz Marketing

Phil Nixon, the original founder of specialist retailer Bass Gear Ltd has announced the launch of a new freelance marketing consultancy called MusicBiz Marketing.

Nixon will remain a director of Bass Gear, which continues to trade, but has changed his roles and responsibilities since the retailer went primarily online.

“Before I established my retail business in the MI industry, I had previously spent many years at senior levels in the marketing world,” explained Nixon. “This new venture is about me giving personal marketing help to instrument makers and artists from as little as £25 per week.”

Nixon has been a marketing professional for over 30 years, starting his own media agency in 1994, which grew into the RAM Media Group, consisting of advertising, public relations, design and direct marketing divisions.

He was also the co-founder of a successful audiobook download service called, which launched in Washington DC in 2006.

Nixon has been performing in bands since 1975 and went full time in the music instrument trade industry in 2010 when he created specialist retailer Bass Gear Ltd, which has sold over a million pounds worth of bass guitars and bass accessories to a worldwide customer base.

His new venture, MusicBiz Marketing, will offer social media, copywriting and PR, gig promotion, event organising, and advertising and design services to the MI industry.
