Barnes & Mullins is to trial a new drop-shipping direct delivery system, starting next month.
The service will extend up to January 2014 at which time the service will be reviewed to assess effectiveness and to take into account trade customer feedback.
The retailer takes an order in the usual way, and then orders the product directly from the B&M sales office, giving the end-user’s delivery address and contact details. Barnes & Mullins will fulfil the order directly, delivering the goods to the end-user’s door. Stock availability can be checked via B&M’s website trade area or via telephone with B&M’s sales office.
Brian Cleary, B&M’s joint managing director explained the thinking behind the new system: “It’s a changing world and we’re constantly looking for new ways to be useful and helpful to our customers. The internet has turned us into a generation who expect fast and efficient home delivery and we believe that by using our logistical scale and experience, we can support our retailers by giving them a new service to offer their customers. The B&M Direct Delivery Service starts immediately on a trial basis that we’ll review in January. If it works as well as we hope, this will be the first step in a bigger and more exciting programme to support our customers”.
