For the second time, the Society Of Music Merchants (SOMM), is hosting the European Musical Instrument Dealer Awards (EMIDA) at Musikmesse on Wednesday, April 5th,
The EMIDA will honour of the top European music retailers, who will be recognised in four different categories (including a special award) for their outstanding achievements with an award and prize money of €5,000.
With this awards ceremony, SOMM makes clear how important European top music retailers are to an active and creative musical instrument sector. Daniel Knöll, managing director, commented: “It’s far too rare that these players are the focus of the musical instrument business. They are the link to the customer and they sell all products with passion, lifeblood and great professional knowhow. They deserve respect and we bow down to them.”
From 15th to 29th March, European top music retailers are able to apply on the www.emida-awards.eu website. Requirements are a completed online nomination on the official website, a short application text (max 10 lines) with the reason why the nomination is deserving of an award in one of the three categories, a letter of recommendation from a manufacturer or distributor, and a review or press article that justifies and supports the nomination for one of the three categories.

Each nomination can be submitted for any number of categories if the justification is valid. In addition, a logo (figurative mark) of the company in jpg format and a copy of the commercial register certificate are necessary for the nomination.
An application for the Lifetime Achievement Award is not possible.
The regulations that cover the nomination requirements can be found on the website and are available to applicants in English, German, French, Spanish and Italian.
The European Musical Instrument Dealer Awards are presented in four categories:
– Category 1: Special engagement to sharing music?
– Category 2: Best unique selling point
– Category 3: Best store concept
Special award – Lifetime Achievement (may be awarded)
