Allman Brothers Band's founding drummer Butch Trucks dies aged 69

Drummer and founding member of the Allman Brothers Band Butch Trucks has passed away at the age of 69.

At the time of writing, the cause of the veteran musician’s death is currently unknown.

Trucks played alongside drummer and percussionist Jai “Jaimoe” Johnny Johanson in the band, and was known for his iconic southern-rock drumming style.

Born in Jacksonville, Florida in 1947, Claude Hudson “Butch” Trucks started playing drums in eighth grade.

Trucks formed a band called Bitter Ind while at Florida State University, and it was during a gig with this band that he first met Gregg and Duane Allman. Almost three years later, the three musicians formed the Allman Brothers Band.
