Global distribution agreement with Brussel's based supplier for Swiss reeds

EMD Music has secured the worldwide distribution rights for the Swiss-made Benz Reeds clarinet and saxophone reeds, which were demonstrated at the NAMM Show in mid-January. The reeds caused something of a furore, particularly among jazz players and reports from EMD are that initial interest is extremely promising.

Benz Reeds claims to represent 'the absolute best quality, precision engineered reeds available for woodwind instruments today', and is leaning on the reputation of Swiss engineering to back this up.

Each Benz Reed is crafted from premium arundo donax cane, the properties of which are analysed by Benz in a newly developed process, with each individual reed being separately machined according to tension and resonance.

Obviously, the manufacturer is keeping the wraps on exactly what this process is, but the claim is that they give an extremely good sound.

"They are balanced, easy to play at all pitches and suitable for all styles of music, leaving the musician to fully concentrate on the playing," read the press release.

"We are getting an amazing response already," said EMD's UK sales manager, Tom Robinson. "I think this could well be a little revolution."

The Benz website is yet to be completed, but the site will soon be available here.
