Deal launched in recognition of current market and trading conditions

John Hornby Skewes has announced that, until further notice, all back orders will be shipped carriage paid in recognition of the current market and trading conditions facing many dealers.

Commenting on the decision, JHS MD Dennis J Drumm said: "With the economic indicators looking like they’re set to remain a little tight as we move into 2010, we thought it a fair decision to supplement the generous terms, (50 days max), and high settlement discounts, (2.5 per cent, and 3.75 per cent), competitive pricing, strong dealerships, great product and high margins we offer as standard, with the additional benefit of removing the burden of back order carriage, reducing our dealers' costs and bringing additional profit to all our customers.”

The JHS 2010 trade price list has been delivered to dealers and features 4,100 products, with some 800 price reductions for 2010 and hundreds more held.

The 2010 JHS trade catalogue will follow during January, containing reliable favourites along with cool new models from Fret-King, some carefully targeted new Vintage electrics including the Mick Abrahams Signature Guitar and the intriguing Fillmore tribute V6 model. English guitar tradition returns with the Pilgrim by Vintage series. There’ll be some new entry level guitars and ukes under the Falcon brand, while on the pro audio side, JHS now offers the full line from class leading power amp brand Lab.Gruppen and an expansion of its Allen & Heath offering to include GL and Wizard series mixer products.

“JHS carriage charges”

Absorbing the back order charges is of course a great thing which some dealers already unofficially get btw. What they ahven't mentioned is that Vintage dealer discount has been dropped form 15% to 13% and that if you order under £450 vat included you will pay £7 per box for delivery - there is no way of knowing how many boxes you order will fit into. So for indie dealers it's still a struggle for example, to even buy a Vintage VS6 at the trade price of around £135, which is the price you can buy one online from GAK and other internet giants! It's so hard to compete when this VS6 guitar and THE other Vintage electrics are so dumped on price online

Do wish you folks would identify yourselves; Makes an open dialog so much more meaningful.

You're absolutely correct, that our carriage paid minimums and carton charges have also changed, really just reflecting ever increasing charges and fuel supplements from our contract carriers.

Statistically, very few orders are placed these days with a value below even our Jan 2010 carriage paid minimum, and it is our policy, within the weight limits per carton set by our carriers, to use the absolute minimum number of cartons possible, to minimise any charges.

For fairness, even an order originally below carriage paid minimums, will not have any carriage charged on back orders created from it.

I cannot comment on the trading policies of our resellers, nor do we have any legal method by which we can influence prices charged to consumers by them. Like all our customers, I yearn for some common sense to be exhibited with this issue. That'sa dealer/market issue. I would comment though, that the change in Vintage Plus dealership discount was accompanied by a change in pricing which actually means that at whatever price the goods are sold at, the cash contribution is increased.

I hope that responds adequately to your points.

Believe me, the changes were carefully considered, we are acutely aware of the trading conditions faced by our customers, and are working diligently to provide, great products, deals, dealer margins and service.

but surely you can choose who you deal with? dealing with morons that give the stuff away at trade will only result in everyone else boycotting the company, check prices on the net from Roland, Alesis, Korg, Gibson, Blackstar and countless others who have done something about it....time for change Mr.Drumm....
