B&M offers product and endorsement deal to lucky online winner

Faith Guitars and Shadow Electronics have teamed up with You Tube website's guitar celebrity, Rob ‘Monkey Lord’ Chapman (pictured) to launch a global search for the next acoustic star. The first prizewinner of the competition will get not only a £700 Faith guitar and great Shadow pickups and accessories, but they will also become a listed, endorsed Faith and Shadow artist with all the benefits that follow. Including the three further runners-up prizes, the Acoustic Glory prize value exceeds £2,000.

The Acoustic Glory competition will begin on October 1st and run for two months. It will be promoted virally via YouTube, Google, The Monkey Lord Guitar Forum, Faithguitars.com and Shadow-Electronics.com – and there will be printed promotions in store at every Faith Guitars or Shadow Electronics UK or German Retailer.

Alex Mew, Barnes & Mullins’ marketing manager explained the thinking behind the scheme. “It’s all about getting to the end-user, and giving them some of what they want – and what they want is primarily to be recognised by their peers and the product brand owners. That’s why Faith and Shadow decided to offer an endorsement deal as well as the physical prizes.

“Working in partnership with Rob’s alter-ego Monkey Lord is a no-brainer, as his You Tube channel and forum members outnumber those for much bigger, more highly funded artists – Lily Allen, Cradle of Filth and Franz Ferdinand among them.

Rob Chapman himself is an accomplished musician with a very large online fan-base, and as he is an exclusive Faith and Shadow artist, as well as being a newly appointed Marshall Amps artist, his influence is unquestionable. He has the power and network to draw huge crowds to take part in Acoustic Glory, and so we can be sure of a great result.”

The Acoustic Glory competition will require all entrants to compose and play an original 90 second piece – whether it be a song or an instrumental. This 90-second limit will ensure that all the judges will be able to absorb the hundreds of entries properly and judge the contest fairly.

“The competition will clearly benefit all those involved," said Mew. “The brands will achieve a higher level of public-awareness, the retailers that stock Faith or Shadow can see the impact that mass-marketing can have in their own stores, plus the competition entrants will have their talent exposed to a truly global audience.”

The Acoustic Glory competition is the latest collaboration between Barnes & Mullins and Rob Chapman. The world’s first collaboratively designed guitar, the Chapman ML1, will be available in early 2010. With over 300 ML1 pre-registrations via You Tube, the power of online promotion is ever present.
