Peavey seeks to boost MIA small dealer membership
Peavey has announced an incentive scheme to bring smaller retailers into the MIA. Under the terms of the scheme, the company will reward qualifying dealers by paying for a year's subscription to the association. The company says the promotion is "completely independent and sales-target based".
Peavey admits it is hoping its scheme will boost turnover but stresses that it is eyeing longer-term benefits for MI as a whole. "We believe a strong MIA - where retailers have at least as loud a voice as suppliers - is important for the long term future of the MI industry," said Clive Roberts, MD of Peavey Europe. "Industry-wide promotions such as Learn To Play and Weekend Warriors, that help drive customers into music shops, can only be run by a trade association. The same applies to finance schemes like Take It Away. So we're trying to do our bit to encourage more retailers to become members and make the MIA stronger and more representative, so that it can continue to promote music-making."
Paul McManus, CEO of the MIA, welcomed Peavey's move, while stressing that it was an independent scheme, run with permission of, but not under the auspices of, the association.
"Peavey has long been a prominent supporter of the industry - sponsoring the main stage and hosting the exhibitor party at the LiMS show, for example - and we applaud this latest initiative. The MIA naturally welcomes any move that increases our membership and allows us to undertake more promotions that get people playing an instrument. But just as importantly, we're sure that every retailer who joins the association as a result of Peavey's initiative will immediately see tangible rewards by becoming eligible for member benefits such as our legal helpline, reduced rates for insurance and card processing, our foreign currency service and many more."
Peavey says that details of the scheme, which comes into operation on September 1, will be explained to dealers by Peavey representatives as part of their normal call cycle.

Great idea and well done Peavey. We are already long time MIA members, and this initiative will bring more music retailers into the MIA. This strengthens the MIA and we will all benefit. A strong trade association like the MIA is a powerful ally.

I had to read this twice to be sure I wasn't halucinating...
This is more like it – the problem with the MIA is that it is just a supplier's club to keep their eyes on what's going on and theiur fists on the short and curlies of the trade.
If the MIA was retailer led (like NAMM is) it would be an association worth being a member of.
Well done Clive and Peavey. Funny isn't it, that it is always the same few suppliers that come up trumps all the time.

Congratulations Peavey on a great initiative. As a retailer on the inside I know that the MIA has worked really hard to encourage greater retail involvement in the association. The more that join and put their weight behind the MIA the better for everyone. This initiative can only help further that aim.

It's really encouraging to see Peavey use MIA membership as part of an insentive scheme. I would also like to add as a memeber of the MIA membership committee in answer to the comment made by Guitarman that strenuous efforts have been made to encourage more Retailers to join, only to be met by a wall of apathy. OK retailers it's in your hands, get in there, join up and well, well, what do know suddenly we have a retailer dominated pan Industry Association.
