Stentor strings for Gallions

East London primary school presented at the London International Music Show
UK supplier, Stentor, has pulled off something of a coup by getting an entire school – 240 children and the staff – to play its violins and cellos. Gallions School in Newham, East London.
The school has taken an innovative approach to the curriculum and teaches all aspects it through the creative arts. Included in this, each child, from Year 1 (age five) upwards learns to play the violin or cello, with lessons at least once a week. The school maintains that this engages the children’s interest, encourages creativity, thinking skills, co-operative working and positive behaviour.
At the London International Music Show at Excel last week, children from Gallions performed their own piece with the school choir and string ensemble.
Stentor presented £1,000 worth of Stentor violins to the school at this event. This support from Stentor will enable even more music making in the school, as students currently share instruments due to the large number of children playing. “This is fantastic news,” said Paul Jackson, the head teacher at Gallions (pictured right with Stentor’s Liz Wilkes and Michael Doughty).
