New gear from Fostex and Metric Halo up the ante for recording
SCV London has announced the launch of two products, one from Fostex, the other from Metric Halo, both of which target more unusual recording needs.
First up, the new LR16 from Fostex (pictured) is a mixer, snake and recorder all-in-one, which are linked by up to 50 metres of Cat5e cable. The LR16 is a 16/4/2 live mixer with built-in 16-track recorder, which can be used separately from the mixing controller, connected via a single Cat5 cable. This clever new system means the mixer can be placed away from the recording unit, removing the need for expensive stage boxes and multicore cabling.
Metric Halo’s latest offering is touted as ‘redefining what’s possible with a computer audio interface’ through the ULN-8
Building upon the experience gained with the Mobile I/O 2882 and ULN-2, Metric Halo set out to design an integrated product to literally provide the best performance in each of its component sections while still providing all of the benefits of tight integration in a single field-capable package. The ULN-8 is the result of that development programme.

I have an old Fostex recorder that has been great for years. Haven't used the Metric stuff but have heard good things. Anyone have any feedback on it?

I have a ULN-2 and I don't really need anything else – very quiet pres.
I reckon the ULN-8 will be way way out of my price range, but I probably want it all the same.
Why do these people keep coming out with new stuff – I hate them (and so does my wife)
