Manufacturer reveals its first pro headphones and the brand new Super 55 mic
Shure has expanded into the pro headphone market with the highly anticipated SRH models, revealed at the London International Music Show today. It has also debuted the brand new Super 55 vocal microphone.
Arriving in the UK with three models, SRH240, SRH440 and SRH840, the new headphone range represents Shure’s first foray into the pro headphone market and range from entry level and home recording offerings, to premium quality professional headphones.
The flagship headphone model is the SRH840, which offers the widest frequency response (5 Hz to 25 kHz), tailored to deliver rich bass, clear mids and extended highs. These headphones are targeted for studio monitoring and recording applications offering the same detachable cable and collapsible design as the SRH440 model. In addition, a padded adjustable headband has been incorporated for superior fit and comfort. The SRH840 is supplied with a carrying bag and an additional set of ear pads.
“Shure is well known in the professional audio and consumer audio market for our range of in-ear earphones,” commented Paul Crognale, marketing manager at Shure Distribution UK. “We’ve drawn on our experience with pro audio monitoring systems and sound isolation technology and applied it to a whole new range of headphones. Shure kit is installed in studios across the globe and we anticipate the high quality of the new range will make these headphones as commonplace in the studio as our microphones are now.”
In addition, Shure has launched the Super 55 mic at LIMS today. The Super 55 takes the design of the 55SH model and updates it with cutting edge microphone technology, offering a combination of classic design and contemporary professional performance.
First produced in 1951, the 55SH body has remained in continuous production since, and has been used by numerous musical greats, including Elvis Presley. The Super 55 brings this iconic design into the 21st century, with a new motor and supercardioid cartridge added to provide clear vocal reproduction on virtually any voice. High output and excellent off-axis rejection also aid in upgrading performance.
The Super 55 features the signature satin chrome-plated die-cast casing, with vibrant blue foam. The result is an instantly recognisable microphone with the performance of modern professional audio equipment.
“The 55SH is possibly the most recognisable microphone on the planet,” added Crognale. “While the design continues to be popular over 50 years after first being produced, sound engineers increasingly require additional gain-before-feedback during performances that is provided by a supercardioid polar pattern. We’ve developed the Super 55 so they no longer need to choose between classic style and first class performance, they can now have both.”
The SRH model headphones are available from July 2009 in the UK with retail prices from £69.99 to £139.99. The Super 55 is also available in the UK in July with an estimated retail price of £243.85. For more information, please visit www.shure.co.uk/whatsnew.
