Three-generation family business closes its doors
Biggars, the family-owned high street musical instrument retail business in Glasgow has closed its doors after going into administration.
MI Pro would like to note that the business was placed in the hands of joint administrators, Colin Murdoch and Donald McNaught of Scottish-based Invocas Business Recovery and Insolvency, not Adam Southbard, as previously stated.
Colin Murdoch said: “Leading up to the appointment the company experienced financial difficulties due to tough market conditions and, in particular, its inability to compete with internet retailers with lower cost bases.
The primary aim of the administration is to preserve value for creditors and to that end the joint administrators are currently considering the best strategy for realising the company’s assets.”
Biggars had been the only Steinway agent in Scotland and had previously cited the prestige piano manufacturer as its big business brand, selling up to six of the instruments – some of which costing upwards of £50,000 – per month.
