Further musical merchandise departments added following successful trial

US-based MMR magazine has reported that, having experimented with a test market of six MI ‘stores within a store’, Best Buy has incorporated musical merchandise departments into two more stores within Chicago area, with more reportedly on the way.

"We are trying some new things in different product categories that we've only dabbled in before," Best Buy's Jennifer Rudin said in 2005. "You'll see guitars and amps aren't new; we've had those products for years. But now we're offering more brand names that our customers will more likely recognize, and at higher price points."

High-end products from Fender, Gibson, Roland, Korg, Yamaha, Line 6, Drum Workshop, Shure, and Zildjian will be featured. One thing that has changed from the tests is that both of these new Chicago operations will be offering lessons and doing in-store repairs.

So serious is Best Buy about its expansion into MI that, in future, all new Best Buys will be configured around and emphasise the store-within-a-store format.

Why should any UK MI Retailer be interested in this move by Best Buy?...........
(from Wikipedia): "Best Buy Co., Inc. is a Fortune 100 company and the largest specialty retailer of consumer electronics in the United States and Canada, accounting for 21% of the market. On June 26, 2007, Best Buy announced a 40% increase in its operations, with plans to operate more than 1,800 stores worldwide, including 1,400 Best Buy stores in the U.S. With the recent 50% acquisition of UK-based mobile phone operation Carphone Warehouse's retail division, Best Buy announced that it would open branded superstores in the UK and other European countries.[3] Best Buy will first open stores in the UK beginning 2009, with plans for up to 200 stores eventually, it is also considering purchasing UK rivals Kesa Electricals (owner of Comet), DSG International (owner of Currys), or both.......... "
That’s why!

I posted this back on May 12th. No-ne seemed to bothered by it back then. I think there will be plenty bothered in a couple of years (max)!

"Just to add to the good news is the recent announcement that Discount Chain "Best Buy" is coming to the UK in partnership with "Carphone Warehouse".
Just from this news alone was enough to see DSGi's share rating knocked down in the City.
"Best Buy" are very aggresive in the US and the last time I looked they were quite heavy into MI with some stores having a fully blown, 10k sq ft music store incorporated into the floorplan!
Any comments from anyone?"

Why do the Septics think the streets (in a musical context) are paved with gold over here?
