British brand of picks claims environmental consciousness

Brit Picks – the world’s first 100 per cent recycled, British-made plectra – was launched at this year’s LIMS in partnership with its exclusive UK distributor, Barnes and Mullins.

Brit Picks are a new development in the world of plectra, being made from recycled polycarbonate plastic.

Supplied to the retailer in secure counter display boxes that hold 480 units, all the picks are red, white or blue and have a distinctive grip-enhancing image related to their relative thickness. For example, the 0.99mm has an Ice Cream, while the 0.88mm has two fat ladies.

Sizes available range from the ultra thin 0.44mm through to the glassy-sounding 2.00mm.

Further to their environmental credentials, all the off-cuts generated in the manufacturing process are put back into the hopper to create more picks, meaning that nothing is wasted.

The creation of industry veteran, Ross Jordan, Brit Picks were launched to an enthusiastic trade and public at LIMS 2008, with stock now available.

“People who know me from my retail past or my work with the MIA will know I have an unhealthy obsession with picks. I just love them”, commented Ross. “Now I’ve turned this to good effect, and it’s about time we had something to be cheerful about in our industry. So how about a British made product that is not only useful, cool and quirky, but most importantly environmentally conscious.

“We probably won’t save the planet with Brit Picks,” he added, “but we might just wake up the music industry to the most important issue of our generation and help produce great music in the process”.
