ABRSM announces new marketing structures

With effect from May 12th there will be a single ABRSM marketing department, bringing together the various marketing and sales functions currently carried out within its development, international and publishing departments, which will be led by Ben Selby, who takes up the post of Marketing Director on that date.

Selby has worked for the Associated Board for the last four and a half years, most recently as publishing director. He holds the Chartered Institute of Marketing’s Professional Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing. Prior to his time at the Associated Board he has worked in a variety of sales and marketing roles within the music publishing industry.

On top of this, ABRSM has announced further changes, including the professional development programmes being managed by a separate department and led by Richard Crozier as director of professional development. Also from May 12th, Leslie East, the executive director of syllabus and publishing, will take responsibility for all aspects of ABRSM publishing other than marketing and sales.

These changes, the Associated Board states, “are designed to continue the process of ever-closer integration of the varied activities carried out by the Board for the benefit of teachers and learners of music. They follow on from the co-ordination of the syllabus and publishing areas implemented in April 2007 and also reflect the needs of the Board’s stakeholders as expressed in recent market research.

Commenting on the changes, ABRSM’s chief executive, Richard Morris said: “While maintaining its worldwide focus on graded exams, over recent years the Associated Board has created and delivered many other services and products to support teachers and learners of music. Our new integrated structure will ensure that all of these are presented and made available to our customers in the most coherent and effective way. With his marketing background and substantial experience within the Associated Board, Ben Selby is ideally placed to lead the new marketing team.”
