Danfay to cease as Irish distributor as part of European restructure
Effective June 1, 2008, Danfay will cease to operate as Yamaha's distributor in Ireland.
From that date, Yamaha products will be supplied to Irish dealers directly, by Yamaha's UK subsidiary, Yamaha Music UK. A detailed information pack regarding contacts and procedures at YMUK will be supplied in early May.
With an understanding of the Irish market, Kevin Farrell will be transferring from Danfay to YMUK, and the company is hoping that Paul Miller and Paddy Reilly will also join the team.
Yamaha has acknowledged the efforts of Danfay in helping to establish and build its position in Ireland and notes that the company’s relationship with Terry Brooks and the late Danny Keany has been a long and friendly one.
The announced change is part of a general restructuring across Europe, following the ending last year of joint venture operations in the UK and Spain. Yamaha is increasingly operating on a pan-European level and feels that the role of an exclusive importer would not fit well into this business structure.
Yamaha has also recently announced the bringing together of its musical instrument and AV operations. YMUK will also be taking over the distribution of AV products in the UK from the previously separate Yamaha Electronics UK. This too will happen in June 2008 and also applies to Ireland.
