Association chooses musician-led company as preferred insurance provider.

The Music Industries Association – UK trade association for the musical products and retailing sector – has announced that it has secured a four-year sponsorship deal with Musicguard, choosing the online company as its preferred supplier of insurance to musical instrument and equipment owners, both amateur and professional.

Providing insurance to over 10,000 musicians and DJs, and covering instruments and equipment valued at over £80 million, Musicguard’s varied customer base includes music teachers, orchestral musicians, sound & lighting engineers, performing groups and bands, along with home or studio based musicians. Customers are able to create, revise and manage their policies online, which can be tailored to suit their personal circumstances.

“I am delighted to welcome Musicguard as our insurance partner”, commented Paul McManus, MIA chief executive. “We are seeing ever increasing sales of musical products in the UK as more and more people discover the wonderful world of music making.

We are naturally also delighted to see an equally growing number of people insuring and protecting their treasured instruments.”

Musicguard was established by former professional musician and one-time owner of Patrick Eggle Guitars, Andrew Selby, and is now part of JLT Online – owned by leading international insurance and reinsurance brokers, Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group.

Selby, chairman of Musicguard commented: “Musicguard is a company founded and managed by musicians. We have our own company band, Kamikaze Fish, which is made up entirely of Musicguard staff and family. We feel we have a good insight into the needs of our customers and this is reflected in the products and service we provide. We have long admired the work that the MIA does to support the industry and we wanted to give something back and make an investment in our future customers. We will be working with the MIA to raise awareness of the risks that musicians face and offer the best insurance solution there is.”
