World’s largest print music publisher expands relationship with industry veteran.
Hal Leonard Corporation has announced the appointment of Mark Mumford to the newly created position of director of European sales and marketing.
Based in London, Mumford will oversee all aspects of the company’s business, both in the UK and throughout Europe, focusing on sales and marketing of the substantial Hal Leonard catalogue.
A music graduate, Mumford is from Andover, England and his previous roles include coveted positions such as educational publishing manager for International Music Publications, education sales and marketing manager for the Music Sales Group, director of publishing for Warner Bros. Publications UK and vice president of publishing and education at MakeMusic. He is a frequent guest lecturer for music business courses and regularly presents seminars and in-services for music educators.
Mumford has been working with Hal Leonard since 2003, when he and his UK-based consulting company, MusiWorks Services were contracted to help more actively promote and market Hal Leonard educational publications throughout Europe. During his tenure, sales of flagship brands such as the Hal Leonard Student Piano Library, the Hal Leonard Guitar Method, and Essential Elements for Band, Choir and Strings rose substantially.
“Mark has nearly two decades of experience in the music industry and a real knack for creativity in marketing and selling publications”, enthused Larry Morton, president of Hal Leonard. “We feel confident that he will greatly increase our international sales across all divisions, and we are proud to welcome him into the Hal Leonard family.”
In 1996, Hal Leonard and Music Sales jointly formed Hal Leonard Europe (HLE). Mumford will market publications created specifically for the HLE catalogue along with other products Hal Leonard has rights to distribute into the UK and Europe, including songbooks, instructional publications, school music, DVDs, and trade books.
Mumford was enthusiastic about the appointment and told MI Pro: “I’m looking forward to now being able to commit more time to the HLE catalogue and to working with our other partners in Europe, whilst helping to develop business as we keep moving forward."
