Yamaha's iTunes-scanning CSP Clavinova digital piano now available

“Research has shown that there are a huge number of people that want, wish, dream of playing a musical instrument, but simply do not wish to commit the time for formal study.”

Back in August, MI Pro reported that Yamaha was planning to release a new digital piano with the ability to scan your iTunes library and create chord charts and piano scores from your favourite songs.

Following an official unveiling earlier this month, the CSP Clavinova is now available.

The CSP concept was to create a new class of digital piano for the modern musician. “Characterised by explosive musical power and unprecedented flexibility, CSP is truly an instrument for the smart era – offering unique features and a new level of control,” explained Yamaha.

When combined with the CSP’s companion app, “Smart Pianist”, this new series of instruments promises to become the gateway to anyone’s musical potential.

“Research has shown that there are a huge number of people that want, wish, dream of playing a musical instrument, but simply do not wish to commit the time for formal study,” said the instrument maker. “The CSP Clavinova eliminates these boundaries and opens up new and enjoyable creative horizons for these potential new pianists. Finally, a piano for everyone!”

At its heart is a high performance Clavinova featuring the stunning Yamaha CFX and Bösendorfer Imperial concert grand piano sounds, offering impressive dynamic control.

The accompanying Smart Pianist app is easy to use, and gives access to hundreds of sounds and backing bands, which are more intelligent, dynamic and expressive than ever before.

All the sounds can be adjusted to match your style. For example, within the ‘piano room section’, the lid position of a grand piano can be adjusted with just a swipe on the screen.

The app also boasts interactive scores for over 300 accredited piano exercises, plus a vast range of popular scores. The CSP is unique as it can even access your personal music collection through your smart device and create chord charts and piano scores.

CSP also features Stream Lights, which visually aids the learning process with lights illuminating the notes to play. More than just ‘light up keys’, the stream lights cascade down giving advanced warning of which notes to play.

Yamaha’s Leanne Barrell commented: “The CSP Clavinova will bring the joy of piano performance and learning to a huge new audience of music lovers that want to connect with the instrument in a hugely entertaining way, it symbolises the Yamaha philosophy of enriching lives through music.”

There are two CSP models: CSP-170 (£2,768) and CSP-150 (£2,231). The difference between the two models is how they feel (keyboard action) and how they sound (speaker system).

Both models are available in Polished Ebony, Black and White.
