Darkglass introduces Microtubes B7K V2 and B3K V2 pedals

Darkglass’ new pedals are available in the UK through Audio Distribution Group.

Darkglass Electronics has given two of its much-loved products, the B7K and the B3K, brand new upgrades.

A perfect combination of brutality and clarity, the original Microtubes B3K delivered a sharp and scooped overdrive tone (like a modern tube amplifier) in a really easy to use pedal. Its dead simple control layout was key to the Darkglass initial success. As it is virtually impossible to set it the “wrong way”, the three knobs and toggle switches made it easy to find useful tones while rarely getting something that wasn’t useful and appealing.

Fundamentally the Microtubes B3K V2 is the same pedal Darkglass designed nearly a decade ago, aimed to give you a perfect combination of brutality and clarity.

These are the notable changes:
– Tone Knob: This control uses a variable low pass filter to exactly control the high harmonic content. The Attack switch from the V1 has now been removed, as the Tone knob essentially serves the same function, but with a much greater range and control over the attack and treble.

– Mid Boost switch: Darkglass also included a control to add an alternative to the characteristic mid frequency response of the B3K. If desired, pushing this button will result in a slightly flatter and more transparent character.

– Grunt Switch: Replacing the V1 three-way toggle, the new V2 modes are Raw and Fat.

The B3K V2 has an RRP of £225.

Tone crushing overdrive and super transparent modern sound is the essence of the B7K. One of the most acclaimed Darkglass pedals in the bass community, it doesn’t compromise the original sound of the instrument, but enhances its presence in the mix. B7K takes the powerful dynamic saturation circuit from the simple B3K CMOS Bass Drive pedal and then adds a 4-band active EQ, parallel output and balanced line driver for even greater versatility.

The character and core of the Microtubes B7K V2 though remains exactly the same, still retaining the powerful dynamic saturation circuit, EQ and the balanced line driver as the original. Darkglass wanted to simply add some very useful features for tone shaping on the V2 model:

– Low mid frequency switch: The “Lo Mid” control has now a dedicated switch to shift its corner frequency one octave so in addition to the standard 1kHz now users get 12dB of cut/boost at 500Hz.

– High mid frequency switch: The “Hi Mid” control has now a dedicated switch to shift its corner frequency one octave so in addition to the standard 3kHz now users get 12dB of cut/boost at 1.5kHz.

The B7K V2 has an RRP of £319.
