British Drum Company unveils first official product

The Merlin Snare

The Merlin Snare is the debut product from the British Drum Company.

The Merlin Snare is the firm’s first product release.

The British Drum Company, which launched last year, has lifted the lid on its first official product – the Merlin Snare.

Available to order now, the Merlin Snare is handcrafted from the firm’s Cheshire workshop and has a 20ply 10.5mm thick shell and is blended from maple and birch.

The shell features a unique bearing edge that starts from the outer edge with a 30 degree rounded over, which continues rounded over the top peak of the edge and flows into a standard 45 degree inner edge. This edge is designed to provide optimised head to shell contact and allows the snare to tune high without choking and tuned down for a deeper tone.

The snare comes decorated with solid brass heavy-duty tube lugs, which are an original design by Keith Keough, the company’s master drum builder who designed and used the lugs with his original company, KD Custom Drums.

The Merlin Snare comes as standard with the firm’s dual ended adjustable LST strainer and matching butt plate. An upgrade to a Trick or Dunnett is available at extra cost.

The British Drum Company, which launched in September, was founded by master drum maker Keith Keough; Kasabian drummer Ian Matthews; military marching drummer and co-founder of the Highwaymen Drum Corps (as seen on Britain’s Got Talent 2011) Stu Warmington; product designer Alan Kitching; and award winning comedian and drum enthusiast Al Murray, aka The Pub Landlord.

Based in Stockport, the comapny will use only British-made shells in its manufacturing process, with handcrafted kits and marching drums at the core of the product range.

In November, the firm announced Dave Hunt as its official exclusive worldwide sales representative for the brand.
