First speaker of the day at the MIRC conference was retail analyst and expert Ruth Boulton, whose seven-point plan for retail can be viewed below.
Boulton, who has worked with a number of leading retailers in an advisory capacity over the years, said retailers can generate store traffic and maintain customer relationships by adopting a number of key strategies to develop their shop as a brand.
There are seven strands to the strategy:
- What is your shop about?
- Define your target market
- Active multichannel retailing
- Attract them in
- Go to them
- Make them welcome
- Wow and tie them in
Boulton then reassured smaller retailers that "there are plenty of people out there who will pay more for that personal service" and that dealers should "demonstrate and share your passion with your staff."
