MI retailers were treated to in-depth presentations from two expert speakers at yesterday's MIRC Conference, as well as a keynote speech from Rick Wakeman.
Ruth Boulton from The Training Point delivered her seven-point retail plan, which covered the following points:
- What is your shop about?
- Define your target market
- Active multichannel retailing
- Attract them in
- Go to them
- Make them welcome
- Wow and tie them in
Boulton then reassured smaller retailers that "there are plenty of people out there who will pay more for that personal service" and that dealers should "demonstrate and share your passion with your staff."
After the first panel session, online expert John Straw (pictured) from Linkdex explained how to get a Google listing and how to bag a better one than the competition.
Straw went on to explain the importance of being visible online, how using keywords properly can lead to more 'hits' and why getting other sites to link to yours can increase traffic dramatically.
Prog-rock star Rick Wakeman then rounded off proceedings with his keynote speech – A Grumpy Old Keyboard Player's View of the Music Industry. The legendary keyboard player revealed how he struggles with today's increasingly complicated instruments, told stories about the MI industry from as far back as the 1960s and declared his admiration for bricks and mortar MI retailers.
