MIA AWARDS: First win for Blackstar
Among the winners at the MIA awards on October 14th at the Sheraton Park Lane was Blackstar for its hand-wired Artisan 30 combo, an amp that combines the globally respected sound of British guitar amplification with the most up-to-date techniques in audio science.

The premise is a simple one, a 30 Watt EL84 power stage driving a pair of classic British speakers, and the tone is something that will be instantly familiar to the hardened rock or blues guitarist, but Blackstar claims to have taken this and distilled it, taking it, they say ‘to a new level of tonal purity’.

Slotting comfortably into the sub £1,500 market, the Artisan 30 is a workhorse amp that offers the player ease of use and a tone to die for.

“We’re absolutely delighted to win the award, and as a new company, it means a huge amount to us,” enthused Blackstar’s Paul Hayhoe (pictured). “When you look at some of the other companies who have won it over the years, it’s almost a who’s who of some of the best amp manufacturers in the world, so it does mean a great deal. Also, the fact that it’s voted for by people in the industry as well is another nice element to it. It’s a great sounding amp even if I do say so myself – it’s reasonably priced and it has a fantastic build quality, and I think, particularly in these more difficult times with the credit crunch, retailers are enjoying selling something that isn’t cheap but is within reach of customers.”
