Tomandwill's sales manager Clive Guthrie talks to MI Pro about the firm's presence at the upcoming MI Retail Conference & Expo, in association with Musikmesse.
How important is it for the UK MI industry to have a dedicated event for retailers?
Crucial. There are so few events which give UK MI distributors a chance to meet with retailers and promote their products - and we like the one day, easy format that this conference offers.
What do you see being the key issues facing MI retailers in 2011?
Keeping up to date with the change in how consumers shop is certainly important. Profitability and sound cash flow is crucial.
What products/services will you be promoting at the event this year?
We will be promoting a selection of our key brands including Jumbie Jam, Clarineo, tomandwill and Attitude gig bags, MMX and Vocalzone.
The Jumbie Jam is the world's best beginner steel drum and has the sound and quality of a professional instrument all at an amazing price.
The Clarineo is already extremely popular with schools and MI retailers alike. Its design and colour options make it popular with children yet the fact that it is almost indestructible appeals to both schools and parents.
Attitude bags are our most recent brand under the tomandwill distribution label and offers affordable protection for guitars in eye catching designs.
Our latest addition is Vocalzone throat Pastilles which are massively popular with musicians and we have a great new counter display for shops.
Why should retailers look out for the Tomandwill stand at the MI Retail Conference & Expo?
They might get to meet Graham Lyons, inventor of the Clarineo, and may even hear him play a tune on one! We will also have some really good 'show only' deals to tempt.
What are the key brands you carry?
Tomandwill gig bags, Clarineo, Jumbie Jam, Reunion Blues, MMX Carbon Fibre, Perri's Leathers, Vocalzone, Panyard and Attitude.
What are your projections for 2011/2012?
We will very likely look back on this year as the one where we met our targets when expecting otherwise and failed when we expected to do so - I will be delighted to see gentle growth for the year as a whole.
If there was one thing you¹d change in the MI industry, what would it be?
Margins are all important.
What distinguishes you from your competitors?
New and niche products which is where our strength appears to have been over the past few years and we hope to continue along these lines.
