Paul Lewis and Adam Gatehouse, the new joint Artistic Directors of the Leeds International Piano Competition, have outlined their vision for the future of one of the world’s most renowned piano competitions.
At the heart of their new plans is a desire to ensure that ‘The Leeds’ builds on its position as among the most coveted prizes in the piano world.
New-concept portfolio prize offering winners unprecedented long-term career opportunities, including new partnerships with Askonas Holt; an enhanced partnership with BBC Radio 3 that offers concert and recording possibilities; a debut recording, and engagements with leading promoters and venues.
‘The Leeds’ is a truly international competition with previous prize winners from twenty-eight countries worldwide to date.
It selects its prize winners based on a combination of factors; musical refinement, versatility, sensitivity and passion, as well as commitment and the strength to take on an international concert career.
It offers numerous engagements of the highest calibre enabling competitors to make excellent industry contacts and gain exposure onto the world stage. The city of Leeds is a vibrant and exciting cultural hub and offers a great environment for competitors to socialise and learn in the company of other world-class pianists.
Applications for the 2018 competition open in September 2017. First rounds take place in Berlin, New York and Singapore in April 2018 with semi-finals and finals in Leeds in September 2018.
